FAQ

Color or Black & White
For headshots, color is in these days. Reproductions are typically the same price for color and black & white. With digital we can shoot in color and convert it to black & white in Photoshop after the shoot. The best of both worlds!

Digital or Film
Digital is more popular because there is virtually no loss of quality for an 8x10 headshot, you'll see the results faster, and you can shoot more photos at no extra cost. Film can have interesting qualities that digital can't quite capture, but for actors I always recommend digital because it's less expensive, more practical, and there is virtually no loss of quality.

Natural Light or Studio Light
I shoot both natural and studio light. There is no right answer. They are different and can create a totally different portrait of who you are depending on what you are going for. Natural light is better for all skin tones and it is very relaxing. Studio lighting, on the other hand, can give a photo more punch. I believe that using a combination of both studio and natural light creates both spontaneous and striking shots. Again, the best of both worlds!

What to wear
I recommend clothing that is simple, flattering, and tastefully sexy. You want to highlight your features. If you have blue eyes, wear something blue or green to highlight your eyes. If you have red hair you can also show that off by wearing a contrasting shirt such as blue or green. In general I recommend simple, form-fitting tops that are not heavily patterned or distracting and that flatter your body. Colors that usually work are black, blue, grey, maroon, coral and muted, natural shades of red and green, as well as softer shades of beige and lavender. I like to look at everything first so feel free to bring your whole closet as long as you can fit it!
